Tropical Permaculture Farm in Costa Rica – Finca Tierra

Photo Gallery of Our Tropical Permaculture Systems

Finca Tierra is a tropical permaculture education center located near Puerto Viejo de Talamanca on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica.

For more than fifteen years we have developed food forests, regenerative gardens, and natural buildings designed for humid tropical climates.

This gallery offers a visual look into our tropical permaculture farm, including landscapes, crops, wildlife, and hands-on courses.

Natural Buildings, Gardens & Food Forests

Finca Tierra integrates natural buildings, organic gardens, and tropical food forests into a productive permaculture landscape.
These systems demonstrate how tropical farms can grow food, restore soil, and support biodiversity while creating beautiful living spaces.

Tropical Food Forest and Organic Gardens

Our forest farm demonstrates how tropical food forests can produce abundant food while regenerating soil and biodiversity.
Layers of fruit trees, perennial vegetables, staple crops, and support plants grow together to form a living agricultural ecosystem that produces food year-round.

Farm-to-Table

Food is one of the most powerful ways to reconnect people with land.

At Finca Tierra we focus on farm-to-table cuisine, preparing nutritionally balanced meals using ingredients grown directly on the farm or sourced from local producers.

These dishes reflect the incredible diversity of tropical foods, from fresh fruits and vegetables to traditional Caribbean flavors.

Our courses and retreats explore how local food systems, tropical agriculture, and nutrition work together to support resilient communities.

Flora

Finca Tierra is located in one of the most biologically diverse regions on Earth.

The tropical rainforest surrounding the farm contains an extraordinary variety of plants, including medicinal herbs, edible leaves, fruit trees, and towering jungle species.

Many of these plants are traditionally used by Afro-Caribbean and Bribri indigenous communities for medicine, food, and daily life.

Leaves, bark, roots, and fruits are used in natural remedies, tonics, soaps, and culinary preparations that nourish both body and spirit.

The forests surrounding Finca Tierra are home to a rich diversity of wildlife.

Visitors regularly observe animals such as:

  • howler, capuchin, and spider monkeys

  • brightly colored frogs, insects, and tropical birds

More elusive species such as ocelots, jaguarundis, and margays also inhabit the surrounding forests.
