PDC Course & Farm Internship
Fundamentals of Ecological Design & Practical Permaculture Experience
At Finca Tierra we've designed into our everyday life many sustainable living applications of ecological principals. To understand how, join us for our four-week internship series of practical permaculture workshops that immediately follows our two-week permaculture design course. Together this package of experiences prepare students for implementing and leading ecological projects.
First, get up to speed with our two-week, 72-hour, fundamentals of ecological design course, an intensive permaculture design certificate (PDC) education taught by experienced instructors through formal lecture and hands-on instruction. Study the strategies and techniques that can provide for a permanence of human life on earth in harmony with nature. Topics include agroforestry, organic gardening, viable architecture, renewable energy, beneficial waste systems, nutrient and energy cycling, gravity fed rain water systems and local economies.
Then, gain hands-on practical permaculture experience through our 4-week internship program. In a series of workshops that apply the PDC course information, participants are prepared to implement or lead a permaculture design project. Become engaged in a wide variety of tasks, all the while closely guided by permaculture experts; study systems that yield an abundance of shelter, water, energy and food, in a designed landscapes that mimics the patterns and relationships found in nature; and become absorbed in learning something meaningful that you can use to provide productive diversity, stability and resilience every day in your home environment.
At the conclusion of the internship experience, group members cement their learning by joining with a community, grassroots volunteer movement. Working along side a local applicant/landowner we'll design and implement a low maintenance tropical food and sustainable infrastructure system that will supply much of a complete diet. Students will leave with the confidence and experience of implementing their first real world consultation and application.
